The Fisher Houses are compassionate care facilities located within walking distance of the base. The houses provide a comfortable place to stay, serving the families of all branches of the military while the member receives treatment or is outplaced to a local community hospital. The house also serves those military-affiliated members outside of the local area who are receiving medical treatment in an outpatient status. The houses provide a safe and comfortable Home-Away-From-Home for families in need.
Care givers and families of patients from all military branches receiving active treatment. The guests must live outside a 50-mile radius of the Medical Center. Those within a 50-mile radius may be considered on a case-by-case basis if the situation requires the need and occupancy allows. Availability of rooms is provided on a space-available basis. Those in an outpatient status are also eligible, and you may request to have one non-medical attendee (over the age of 18) accompany you during your stay. Priority is given to families of overseas contingency operations, critically ill patients, and oncology. Fisher Houses are open to veterans of all eras. Medical Care varies by location based on criteria established by the medical center, so it is best to contact the specific hospital for more information.
Fisher Houses are gifts to the military services and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Accommodations require a referral prepared and signed by a case manager or medical provider. Prospective guests must be able to care for themselves since no medical care is provided at the Houses. Please communicate directly with a Fisher House manager about the requirements at a specific house from our website’s homepage.
- US military members or authorized dependents actively receiving medical treatment through base MTF.
- Lives outside a 50-mile radius of the hospital and meets medical referral requirements.
- Able to care for themselves independently.
- Able to exit the building independently in an emergency.
- Provide transportation to and from the medical center and other required locations. The Fisher House does not provide transportation.
- Not a threat to themselves or others
- Must not be involved in a domestic violence situation that may pose a threat to others in the house.
- Must be free of communicable diseases, including chicken pox, shingles, measles, mumps, colds, flu, COVID, etc.
The Fisher Houses have fully furnished bedrooms with private baths. They also have community kitchens and spacious dining and living areas. Other features include in-room telephones, cable TV, Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, and housekeeping services.
You may contact the House Manager. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Calls/messages after 4:00 p.m. will be returned the next business day. The office is closed on all Federal Holidays and weekends. If someone is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, please contact the nurse’s station for information.
No. Accommodations at Fisher Houses are entirely free of charge unless negligent damages are incurred.
Guests are responsible for purchasing their food and preparing their meals. A large kitchen allows guests to store food and prepare their meals. Limited common items are provided by donations to support the Fisher House.
As our guest, we provide fresh linens and towels for use during your stay.
Currently, check-in time is 3 p.m., so our staff member is available for questions during orientation and screening. After-hours accommodations must be arranged in advance. Check-out time is 11 a.m.

Yes, with the exception of the Dover Fisher House for Families of the Fallen, we love to show our mission. Please have the courtesy to arrange your visit in advance through the Manager of the House you wish to visit. Individuals or groups wanting to see a Fisher House should do so during the week and not over the weekend or holidays.
