FSS and AFSVC- What We Do

Some people still call it MWR (Morale, Welfare and Recreation), but it’s much more than that. Force Support Squadrons work at installations worldwide. They enhance quality of life for service members, DoD civilians, retirees, and families through activities like golf, bowling, arts and crafts, outdoor recreation, and special events. FSS personnel provide childcare and youth programs for military families worldwide. When deployed, FSS Airmen and Guardians feed troops, manage tent cities, operate field exchanges and fitness centers, and engage other activities. These squadrons provide mission-sustaining quality of life services that enhance morale, fitness, and retention.

The Air Force Services Center (AFSVC) is the headquarters operation that oversees the MWR functions of the Force Support Squadrons (FSS) worldwide.

The Air Force Services Center is located at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. AFSVC evolved from the Morale, Welfare and Recreation unit of the Air Force Personnel Center in 1991. The USAF constantly refines and realigns missions and functions to meet changing real-world conditions. Over the years, Air Force Services has seen organizational changes and has taken on additional roles and responsibilities. No matter the structure or name, the primary focus has always remained the same – to take care of our military members and their families.

Air Force Services and Force Support Squadron personnel provide convenient program availability, modern facilities, a safe environment, friendly staff, and low prices. The money you spend using our programs and services is reinvested into these programs, services, and the Airmen and their families at each U.S. Air Force managed military installation.
