Who We Are
Air Force Services Activity (AFSVA) located in San Antonio, Texas provides daily guidance and assistance to Force Support Squadrons, helping them provide high quality food, fitness, family, and fun programs and force support services to Airmen across the world. The programs and services we provide are vital to a total force that is resilient, focused and efficient. Changing times have brought about different organizational structures; however our mission has remained the same: to provide combat support and community services by delivering mission-sustaining quality of life services.
What We Do
Our support of the overall Air Force mission is direct and significant. Our trained Services Airmen feed troops, manage tent cities, operate field exchanges, attend to fallen comrades, and provide fitness activities. Services Airmen deliver unique capabilities anywhere in the world.
On the home front, child care and youth programs help parents cope with daily work situations. Librarians help meet social, technological and information needs, while pipelining support to deployed units. Food, fitness and lodging programs help meet mission needs while providing a platform for social interaction and well-being. We enhance the quality of life for the service member, DoD civilians, retirees and their families by adding fun through activities like travel/tour programs or pools. No matter the venue, Services personnel meet everyday community needs and rally special support for the mission.
Why It’s Important
Services programs are critical parts of the Air Force readiness and retention equation. These programs contribute to readiness and productivity by promoting fitness, esprit de corps, and quality of life. To support Airmen and the mission requires organizing, training, and equipping properly to ensure success.
How We Are Funded
Services activities are funded in three different ways, with taxpayer dollars or appropriated funds (APFs), through nonappropriated funds (NAFs) generated through sales at on base activities like golf courses, bowling centers and clubs. Or a combination of both like fitness centers and libraries depending on how they support the AF mission
